First neighborhood friend!

Sitting here still in mild pain and discomfort resulting from my wisdom teeth being removed on Wednesday. I'm still not eating solids. Hey, maybe I'll lose a couple pounds, ha ha.  But today is Friday! It's an exciting day of the week for our family. The fact we get so sleep in the next 2 days and bedtimes aren't so strict.

Anyways...

Our oldest daughter, Evalyn, has a new friend on our street. You know the age when kids are ridding their bikes past each others homes and stare, yet too shy to say hi and ask one another to play. I talked to her dad who my husband and I already know on a neighbor level, we found out their daughter is also 6 and in kindergarten just like Evalyn. Perfect, she has someone who own age just a couple houses down. How did I not know this in the past 5 years we both lived on the street?!

I was so proud of Evalyn when she finally asked me, "mom, can I please ride my bike down to her and play?" As my heart turned into knots with fear of letting her go ask, I allowed her. Its only 4 houses down from ours, not too far. Yet I still felt like I was going to have an heart attack watching her ride her  2 wheeled bike down to her house. Yup, I was that mom who watched her the whole time. I kind of felt like a stalker, ha ha.

Evalyn and her new friend totally kicked it off. My husband and I went down their house and had coffee with her parents while they played. I'm not the only mom excited that she has a friend on the street now, so is her mom.

Now I feel I am entering a new stage of parenting with our oldest. many questions went through my head. How young is too young to let her ride bikes with her neighbor friends? Am I too strict as a parent? Am I acting too nervous? Is she age appropriate? After talking about it with my husband, we both agreed 6 almost 7 that it's okay to ride bikes and play down at the neighbors house as well here too. We sat down for an hour and got to know the parents. We would never allowed her to play there without getting to know them. We discussed her new boundaries when riding bikes with her friends.

Of course it brought make old memories when I use to ride around with neighborhood friends!

Everything I have taught her up to now has pulled off. I feel accomplished with stage one of parenting with our oldest. Now onto stage two!

It took me a full week to get back to eating like normal after getting 4 wisdom teeth out--and I think I did lose weight at the time! I hope the recovery goes smoothly for you!
