Helen's 2ND Post-Op Eye Appointment & Glasses Again

This past Thursday Helen had her second post-op eye exam, eye check up, which ever you prefer to call it. I even will call the appointments a few different names if you haven't noticed.

If you haven't been following Helen recently had eye surgery on both her right and left eye for Esotropia (crossing of the eyes not the "lazy eye") people get that confused.  With this surgery there were two post-ops.  At this post-op they examined her eyes the same as every "eye check up routine" that we go in for; roughly 2-3 months. They also examined her eyes with the "sit lamp" to check the healing of her eye from surgery. Good news her eyes are completely healed and well. Yay! Happy Mommy moment and Daddy moment.

In the photo above is where we spend a lot of time with Helen sitting on my lap. She is always such a brave girl. Every time we go in for her next appointment she is a tad bit older and smarter, which benefits all of us. She now can do the test on the TV screen. How does it work? The Doctor puts simple pictures on the TV screen. He then will ask Helen what the picture is. (tree, teddy bear, duck, house, hand, horse, phone, cake to name most of them.) Helen will name most of them that she knows the actual name. The Doctor then continues to make the pictures smaller and repeats the same game again. I love how they play "games" with Helen. While doing this they also cover one eye at a time to test the strength of both eyes. Now that she can do this test I feel it has helped tremendously. 

Now for the news. Helen will be sporting the cool glasses again. She hasn't had to wear glasses since after surgery.  Let me explain the best I can why she will be wearing glasses. We don't know for how long but we do know it's for the best outcome for Helen. And as a parent that is what we want. 

The reason Helen will be wearing glasses again to strengthen the vision in both her eyes so they are equally the same.  Right now, one of her eyes vision is weaker than the other eye. Therefore when she focuses with her eyes that can cause her right eye to go cross again. Even though she had surgery to correct it and her eyes are strait right now does not always mean they can't eventually go cross again somewhere down the road. It could be five years from now or when she's in college. It is not something we can predict and that it a little scary as a Mother. With that being said, the glasses are to strengthen her vision so that both eyes are equal. This is very important because she is in one of the more important stages if growing, learning, and reading in the future. All these things Helen focuses a lot, so its very important she wears her glasses all the time. 

At the end of the appointment we picked out some super cute glasses again. This time Helen was old enough to choose her color of choice. Blue! Actually it's a teal, closest to her favorite color. We went with rectangles this time instead of the circles. Like Mommy. We are praying and asking for yours too that this time around is easier to adjust. That Helen keeps her glasses on full time. And us as parents can do our best. 

What I have learned as a Mother from this appointment:

I have learned that sometimes there are bumps in the road and the the unknown future can be scary. But there is a God and he is buy Helen's side and our side as parents. I know that Helen is in the best hands and the best office. Walking in feels like family. Going through something like this you need to make sure you feel so comfortable with the office you are going to spend so much time at.

Glasses are cool..cute..stylish!!
