I believe Valentines Day is a day for spending money on your loved one once a year that is not needed. Why go out of your way for romance or surprise the love of your life one day out the whole year?! Yes I love receiving flowers, but I would like to receive them from my husband year round out of love or just simply because.
I am not a fan of chocolate, therefore I'd rather not get a valentine heart shaped box of chocolates. Or I can't fathom spending five dollars on a valentines card you eagerly search for to say the correct words, when you can make a homemade card and write from your heart.
So this year my husband and I chose to do absolute nothing for each other for valentines day. It's not about the money spent on each other, it's about the quality of time spent together.
On the other hand, we did get valentines goodies for our daughters. I made three little surprise valentine baskets for when they came to breakfast in the morning.
Evalyn's class celebrated valentines with a little party. She was excited to pass out her valentines to her classmates. Vivian and I slaved all morning making festive cupcakes with homemade strawberry frosting. Boy were they a delicious hit. We then finished valentines day with Grandma D bringing pizza for dinner. A nice and simple valentines day and couldn't go wrong.
