I went to our local store and bought the Vicks vapor rub. It was for my 6 year old so I bought the original one. Fact: The original vicks vapor rub says on the website its good from ages 2 and up. Vicks does have a "baby rub". Their website says good for 3 months and up. I though I'd throw that fact out there for parents like myself with older and younger children. I came home and she was already laying in bed, I applied the vicks vapor rub generously to the her feet. Then I put on her socks for the rest of the night. I heard no coughing the rest of the night or in middle of the night. Amazing huh? You may even apply as the original directions say. My daughter and I even enjoyed the smell, may be weird.
Here are a few other cold/cough remedies my family likes...
*Green tea with raw honey. (Warm for our daughters, hot for my husband and I.)
*Of course drinking a lot of water.
*2 Tablespoons of raw honey and 1 cup of orange juice. We also use apple juice. (We use this as a cough remedy also)
*Cod liver oil. We take this when we start to feel sick or when we are sick.
*Elderberry syrup. (A great flu preventative. If you or your child already have the flu it's a great speedy recovery.)
*Washing Hands and teaching our kids to cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing. I can't preach this enough in our home!
I try to find new natural remedies for illness for my family. If you have a tradition please share it! or just know a natural or not even natural cold/flu remedy be kind to share by commenting!

I used to always get colds at the beginning and ending of the semester but now I'm not in school and haven't had a cold in ages. (Perhaps that was a stress related cold?) I like to drown colds in oj, gatorade, and water. Esther Norine Designs
Usually for coughs, mom gets a ripe banana, slices it lengthwise and puts it in the oven for 10-15min. on 350º... Then she makes us eat it while it's still very very warm... It's gooey and ugly .. but works like a charm!
P.S. We're having a weekend linkup and would love it if you joined! :D

My "go to" for decades has been a Homeopathic Cough Syrup called "Chestal" - children through adults. I take it/give it at the first signs of any cough (sometimes even at first signs of a "cold" since those often turn into Influenza or other chest related illnesses this time of year) and continue until cough improves. Available at most Drug Stores and Health Food Stores. Learning Homeopathy when my kids were little was one of the best uses of my time (other than learning to pray intentionally for them!) :)
Good to know! Will deff be trying this in the future!
Will be using this in the future! Good advice! =)
Great tips! My oldest and I battled an awful cough a few weeks ago. Feels like it lasted forever. She missed a lot of school because of it. Thankfully, we're all better now! Being sick is no fun :(

Our standby is hot chicken soup and tea with honey and lemon. Plenty of OJ for Vitamin C.
Great recommendations! We use some of these in our own home. I also make sure we have plenty of chicken soup available (plus Vitamin C, D, and echinacea).
I find natural remedies work so much better than OTC medicine!
Thank you for sharing and joining this week's Harvest of Friends Weekend Blog Hop.
A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment.
I do believe that you should write more on this subject matter, it may not be a taboo subject but typically people don't speak about these subjects. To the next! Cheers!!
