We are getting rid of our trash bill. I can't stand that stinky bill that comes every three months, let alone the stinky trash bin that is always in a awkward place. It all started while I was sitting on our couch watching the girls play, pondering my crazy ideas to save money. I started thinking, we have a compost that we started this past summer, we already recycle to some extent, and we put our yard waste in the woods behind our backyard. If we actually used all three of those earth saving strategies we don't need a trash bill.
Recycling
By recycling it would drastically lower the amount of garbage our family throws in the landfills. We already taught our daughters how to recycle and do a little of it already, therefore it wouldn't be new to us. We will be setting up a recycle station in the basement of our home. Once our home's recycle station is full we will drop it off to our city's recycle station which is free of choarge. You would be amazed what you are able to recycle. There are websites with lists that are great to print off and keep by your recycle stations at home. It is also great for kids to learn and do to help save our lovely earth.
Compost
This past summer we started a compost. Again this is something great to get your kids involved in and to teach them about saving the earth. Not only is it saving the earth, it's like a little science too. During the winter months it takes a little more determination to keep at, but that's why you buy those compost buckets to keep under your sink. Once you fill the bucket you bring it out to your compost. Just like recycling, you would be amazed what you may put in your compost and have it turn into dirt. Once again just like recycling, there are list online you may print off and keep by your bucket.
Yard waste
We are lucky enough to have woods behind our home. Therefore we rake our leaves and such into the beautiful woods. It works out great for us and the wild life. The turkeys and deer love it. We often find them laying in it or eating it. Plus eventually it decomposes. If we didn't have the beautiful woods behind our home, our city offers free leave drop off during season along with free Christmas tree drop off.
There you have it. These are our ways we are going to get rid of our trash bill just like you can. Not only are we saving ourselves money, but we are also saving the earth. It won't be a walk in the park, but it will be rewarding and something to earn bragging rights about.

Love it Katie! Great idea! =)
Stopping by from the link up...we have a compost just like yours! I love throwing stuff in there knowing it is going straight back into the earth! And it makes our soil really rich. At least I feel like it does! I love "going green" when I can. Happy Monday!
Heyyy happily following along from the mom mingle! I have one little girl and I couldn't imagine ever having anything but girls!! My hubby of course wants a son (and obvi I'll be thrilled if we're blessed with one, one day) but in my heart of hearts, I just want little girls :)) Maybe because I'm one of three sisters myself!
noel @ high heeled mama
That is a great idea! Wish we had a forest behind us instead of nosy neighbors (idea).. just kidding. Anyway, found you via the Monday mingle and am your newest follower.
